These are the leading countries in the three categories and their amounts in surplus, deficit and total trade. Apparently, the trade deficit amount exceeds the trade surplus with the countries. In studying these lists, it can also be noticed that several countries appear in more than one category. The countries Canada, China, Japan, Mexico and Federal Republic of Germany consistently appear on the Top 5 of both trading partners and deficit countries, in slightly different order. While Malaysia follows behind as the 10th in the trading partners, and 9th in the deficit countries.
